Aryabhatt Ka Zero Review: Himansh Kohli Gives It His All, But This Inspirational Drama Never Rises Above Its Weak Writing
Aryabhatt Ka Zero has an inspiring message and a sincere performance from Himansh Kohli, but an inconsistent screenplay, sluggish pacing and underutilised supporting cast prevent it from becoming an engaging watch.
Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5)
A good message alone doesn't make a good movie
Every year, Bollywood delivers a handful of films that aim to inspire rather than entertain. Aryabhatt Ka Zero joins that list with an uplifting message about believing in yourself. Unfortunately, while the intention is sincere, the execution rarely matches the ambition. The film wants to celebrate ordinary people fighting extraordinary odds, but its storytelling keeps holding it back.
Story
The film follows Brahamgupta Shrivastava, fondly called Baggu (Himansh Kohli), a directionless young man constantly labelled a failure by society and even by his own family. As life throws challenge after challenge at him, Baggu begins a journey of self discovery and resilience.
The premise is relatable, but the screenplay struggles to convert it into an engaging cinematic experience. The emotional beats are familiar, the conflicts are predictable, and several scenes repeat the same idea without adding anything new. Instead of making you emotionally invested, the narrative often feels stretched.
Performances
If there's one reason to watch Aryabhatt Ka Zero, it's Himansh Kohli. Shedding his romantic hero image, he delivers one of the most mature performances of his career. His portrayal of a frustrated, underconfident young man feels honest and grounded, even when the script lets him down.
Neeraj Sood adds emotional weight as Baggu's father, while Ravi Kishan once again proves why even a limited role becomes memorable in his hands. Sonnalli Seygall does her part well, but experienced actors like Rajesh Sharma, Alka Amin and Shilpa Shinde are surprisingly underutilised. They deserved far better-written characters.
Direction and Technical Aspects
Director Kamal Chandra deserves credit for choosing a heartfelt subject, but sincerity alone cannot save inconsistent filmmaking. The screenplay lacks focus, transitions feel uneven, and several sequences could have easily been trimmed without affecting the story.
The film looks authentic thanks to its real locations, and the cinematography captures the small town setting effectively. However, sluggish editing hurts the pacing throughout. Instead of building emotional momentum, the film frequently pauses itself with repetitive scenes that dilute its impact.
Music
The soundtrack blends naturally into the narrative but never truly stands out. None of the songs leave a lasting impression, and the background score does little to elevate the emotional highs.
Final Verdict
Aryabhatt Ka Zero has its heart in the right place but rarely finds its cinematic rhythm. Himansh Kohli delivers a committed performance that deserves appreciation, but he is left carrying a film weighed down by a weak screenplay, uneven pacing and underdeveloped supporting characters.
In the end, Aryabhatt Ka Zero reminds us that a powerful message is important, but without equally powerful storytelling, even the best intentions can lose their impact.
